Do you want to brew beer? I’ve been interested in brewing since college, but a couple years ago my wife bought me a kit and ever since I’ve been learning everything possible about it. More than most people would want to know. A good way of sharing knowledge is to join a brew club. There’s a local club called Tampa Bay Beers which meets the first Tuesday of every month at Mr. Dunderbaks in University Square Mall.

Tampa Solid Waste will be announcing changes to the trash pickup for the Hyde Park area. The presentation will be at the Kate Jackson Community Center on Thursday may 15, at 6:30 PM. Topics will include:
- Volume based garbage fees
- Curb/Alley pickup
- Trash related code enforcement

It’s been talked about for a few months, but now La Casa Dolce, on Howard Avenue, has said that it will close after being in that location for two and a half years. The announcement mentioned that they will open other stores in the future but did not give specific details.

I found this Tampa blog recently. It’s called Saturday Mornings With Lucy and is written by Lucy Beebe Tobias. She writes about her travels and experiences in Florida and although she usually posts two or three times a month, her writings are more in depth (and better) than the average blog. This post about DeLeon Springs State State Park is a good example.

The Tampa City Council first approved a proposed beer and wine license for a beer garden in Hyde Park Village and then reversed its decision. Apparently some residents who moved into an “urban” community just realized that they are not the only residents around. How do you buy a condo above a store front and then whine about the potential noise and “food smell”? That’s what Tampa Palms is for. Where you have to drive 20 minutes to buy food and necessities. Chateau Soho on South Howard has closed and in its place Manny’s Bistro has opened up. You know, It’s the one that they painted entirely pink. I wondered how long Chateau Soho would survive. You can always find something funny happening in Tampa. Last week it was the patas monkeys escaping in Lakeland. This week it’s a guy stealing a hot dog costume. Valued at $1,600? Holy moly.

SoHo Sushi closed on Saturday and is moving to a new location on Kennedy Boulevard. The St. Pete Times reports that the move was spurred by growth and space issues. No mention was made of building owner Tommy Ortiz who was involved in SoHo Sushi neighbor Sangria’s move earlier this year.
