Global Lens Film Series - The Fish Fall in Love

The Gasparilla International Film Festival will screen the next film in the Global Lens Film Series at 8pm on Friday, August 22nd, 2008. ‘The Fish Fall in Love’ from Iranian director Ali Raffi will be the film shown. The screening takes place at Studio @ 620 and is free for all members of the Gasparilla International Film Festival. Members should make their reservations known 24 hours in advance, notifying our office through the GIFF contact form.

Gasparilla Film Festival Call For Entries

The Gasparilla International Film Festival (the International part is new) is accepting submissions for the upcoming festival, happening February 26th through Saturday, March 7th, 2009. It will have 5 screening venues in Tampa and St. Petersburg, will include over 120 films. The festival will have sub-sections for Cuban, Florida, Horror and Comedy and Documentary.

Filmmakers wishing to participate in the festival should submit their film prior to December 1, 2008 by entering online at http://www.withoutabox.com/login/5440, or visiting the fest’s website at www.gasparillafilmfestival.com for a complete listing of all available categories.

Gasparilla Film Festival Screening

The Gasparilla Film Festival will be holding a screening of “Bunny Chow”, A South African film and part of the Global Lens Film Series. The event will be at the University of Tampa’s Reeves Theatre and will begin at 8pm on Friday (July 25).

Admission is $8, but free for members of Gasparilla Film Festival and professors, administrators and students of the University of Tampa.

After the screening, a discussion will be led by Dr. Andrew McAlister of the University of Tampa.

Tampa Artist Emporium Turns One

The Tampa Artist Emporium in Hyde Park Village is celebrating its one year anniversary on Saturday during its monthly art mixer. The mixers are held on the 2nd Saturday of every month. This Saturday, (June 14th) it will take place from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, and include over 60 local artists.

All For FreeThe Gasparilla Film Festival will screen the next film in the Global Lens Film Series, “All for Free” (Croatia) on Friday, July 11th at Studio @ 620. It starts at 8:00 PM. Following the film, a film chat will be led by Professor Andrew McAlister of the University of Tampa.

Summer Classic Movie Series

Gasparilla Film Festival Announce 2009 Dates

Seems like it just finished up, but the Gasparilla Film Festival has released its dates for the 2009 event. It’s still about eight months away, but that will go by quickly. If you didn’t attend last year or you haven’t heard about the festival check their site out. It’s only been around for a short while, but it’s turning into a nice event for Tampa.

Film Festival Opening a Success

The Gasparilla Film Festival opened Wednesday night at the Tampa Theater with the showing of Kabluey. The turnout was excellent as movie goers continued to stream in until the 8:00 PM show time. Kabluey was well received by the audience and the film’s writer and star, Jeff Balis was on hand to speak after the movie. (more…)

The Gasparilla Film Festival Starts Now

If you like films you should try to get out and enjoy the Gasparilla Film Festival which is starting Wednesday, March 27. The opening night and reception is at the Tampa Theater and starts at 6:00 PM. Kabluey, by Tampa native Jeff Balis, will open the festival. It starts at 8:00 PM.
