Tampa City Council Approves Cigar City Brewing

Tampa City Council voted 5-2 to permit Cigar City Brewing to sell alcohol. The brewery is located on Spruce Street off of Dale Mabry and is owned by Joey Redner and his father Joe, the strip club owner. Joey writes regular beer columns for tampabay.com and has been working on this venture for a while.

Cafe Con Trey Closes

Cafe Con Trey, located at 2702 W. Kennedy is closing. Their building has sold and the new owners have doubled the rent. They also said, in an article in the St. Pete Times, that business has been down over the past year.

Smoke Barbecue & Grill

I’ve been hearing a lot about the new place by local restaurateur Gordon Davis. He hinted at something like this when he sold St. Bart’s, and now he has followed through with Smoke Barbecue at 901 Platt Street. The building has gone through some tenets since it was a gas station.

Ikea Breaks Ground In Tampa

TBO.com reports that Ikea will break ground soon on their new Tampa location east of downtown:

“The company plans to begin building on 29 acres on Adamo Drive at 22nd Street, just east of downtown Tampa, on June 4.

Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and other city officials are expected to attend a groundbreaking ceremony, Ikea says.”

La Casa Dolce Announces Closing

It’s been talked about for a few months, but now La Casa Dolce, on Howard Avenue, has said that it will close after being in that location for two and a half years. The announcement mentioned that they will open other stores in the future but did not give specific details.

Manny’s Bistro Opens, Chateau Soho Closes

Chateau Soho on South Howard has closed and in its place Manny’s Bistro has opened up. You know, It’s the one that they painted entirely pink. I wondered how long Chateau Soho would survive. Every time I walked buy it was empty, with the employees hanging around waiting for a customer. (more…)

SoHo Sushi Moves From Howard Location

SoHo Sushi closed on Saturday and is moving to a new location on Kennedy Boulevard. The St. Pete Times reports that the move was spurred by growth and space issues. No mention was made of building owner Tommy Ortiz who was involved in SoHo Sushi neighbor Sangria’s move earlier this year.

I finally got it done. There’s a new Business Directory for HydeParkNeighbohood.com. Check out the “Tampa Businesses” link on the main menu. I’ve only had a chance to put a few on so far, but feel free to send in any businesses that you want in the directory. I’m trying to stick to local businesses, so keep that in mind when you make a suggestion.

Sweetbay Has Card Information Stolen

Sweetbay Supermarkets had their network hacked in their home offices in Portland, Maine. he parent company is Hannaford which owns 106 Sweetbay stores which are located in Florida. There’s one in Hyde Park a block of of Howard on Swann.
