Creative Loafing Beer Club

Creative Loafing has what they call a “Beer Club” which seems more like a marketing vehicle but may turn out to be something worth while. The first one that I went to was at Fly downtown. They had a few beers that seemed like leftovers from a recent beer show but they did include some winter ales from Rogue and other craft brewers. The next Creative Loafing Beer Club event is Friday, June 13.

Crime In Hyde Park

There’s been a couple of incidents lately that residents should be aware of. Last week a man was walking his dog on Richardson Avenue when he was approached by two men who then pistol whipped him in a robbery attempt. I frequently walk my dogs at night in the neighborhood and it has never crossed my mind that I should watch out for something like this. (more…)

Hyde Park Nightlife.

I have been living in Hyde Park for about 4 months now and I love to go out and have a good time. I also enjoy not spending my entire paycheck on a night out. So I thought I would share some of the better deals that I have come across in the area. Fortunate for me, I work the weekends and I am usually out drinking on the weekdays. Ceviche’s Moving to St. Bart’s Location

St. Bart's For SaleAs of Wednesday afternoon the “For Sale” sign at St. Bart’s Island House Restaurant was down and workers were busy cleaning up and clearing out things, including the big fish tank that was held two nurse sharks.

Ceviche’s, The Tapas restaurant down the street on Howard will be moving into the building in a couple of weeks. (more…)

City Council Approves Village Plan

Charlie Miranda provided the deciding vote today as the City Council gave approval to the Wasserman Realty plan do redevelop Hyde Park Village by a 4-2 vote.TBO has the story here.

Tampa City Council ended up not approving the Village rezoning by a three to two vote. Tom Scott, Joseph Caetano and Gwen Miller voted for the approval, while Mary Mulhern and Linda Saul-Sena voted against it. (more…)

HHPNA Opposes Hyde Park Village Plan

Habitat for Humanity

I wanted to write about this because it’s an organization that I really like and they do a good job. It’s got ties to Hyde Park and South Tampa also.

For those of you who don’t know, Habitat builds houses and sells them at cost with no interest to low income families. It relies a great deal on volunteers and donations, but it also raises money from it’s store ReStore. (more…)

St. Bart’s For Sale

stbarts.jpgI noticed a For Sale sign went up yesterday at what was formerly St. Bart‘s restaurant. The building which was once home to the restaurant Le Bordeaux, is at the corner of Howard Avenue and Hills Avenue in Hyde Park. Gordon Davis owns the property as well as the restaurant down the street, Ceviche.

Koba’s Has Closed
