Sweetbay Has Card Information Stolen
Sweetbay Supermarkets had their network hacked in their home offices in Portland, Maine. he parent company is Hannaford which owns 106 Sweetbay stores which are located in Florida. There’s one in Hyde Park a block of of Howard on Swann.
The company won’t say how many card numbers were stolen but the transactions in question took place between Dec. 7, 2007 to March 10, 2008. The company also says, in this article in the St. Pete Times, that they do not collect personal information on their customers, but this is not true. They have the “Preferred Customer” cards which they use to collect personal data. I don’t know if this information can be connected to the card data, but they are collecting “personal information”.
Sweetbay offered this advice,
“Sweetbay officials, in apologizing for the “intrusion,” suggested Monday that customers double-check card or bank statements for unauthorized or unfamiliar transactions. Call the bank or card issuer, or both, if something looks suspicious.”
