HHPNA Opposes Hyde Park Village Plan

The Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association Board of Directors is planning to oppose the rezoning and redevelopment of Hyde Park Village when the issue comes before the City Council on Thursday, December 13.

In a notice sent out to the neighborhood, the Board states:

“The Board of Directors’ responsibility is to promote, develop, cultivate, maintain and preserve the aesthetic, civic and communal characteristics of the area and to support enforcement on behalf of the citizens the laws pertaining to preservation, zoning restrictions and to promote the integrity and significance of our historic district.”

I’m looking forward to hearing their reasons for opposing the plan. The note says that a letter to be submitted to City Council will be posted on the site at www.ehydepark.com. From what I know about it, the plan seems rather ambitious as far as the amount of residential that it adds to Hyde Park Village. Along with their reason for objection, I would hope that they also put forth a solution. There should be a positive discussion on what can be done.

Update: There is no letter on the HHPNA site, but Roger Grunke, former President of the HHPNA has his opinion posted here. I have to say that I agree with the opposition after reading this.
